If you want high-class drinking songs, accept no substitute for the Carmina Burana. The whole thing is basically a series of songs about life, love, lust, the circle of life, drinking and more unrequited lust, written by a bunch of inebriated monks between the 11th-13th century. We’re talking Blind Willie McTell dark for parts of it. Despite the opening part being one of the better known pieces of classical music, I feel like most folks probably don’t realize what it is really about. If they did, keeping a straight face in the audience would be harder.
